The only Shinjuku winter street with a 2026–27 date on an organiser page is Kuyakusho-dori in Kabukicho. NPO Shinjuku Kabukicho Kuyakusho-dori 3A calls this the 21st year, 30 October 2026 to 28 February 2027. Lights 16:30 to 03:00. About 700 metres of street trees between Yasukuni-dori and Shokuan-dori. Walkerplus, crediting the 3A, says the 2026 shapes are white wine glasses.
The Shinjuku ward page, updated 29 September 2026, prints the same dates and the same clock. It still titles the run “20th.” Trust the NPO for the count. Trust both for the street. The ward also left last year’s ceremony programme on this year’s dates: Tokyo Fire Department band, countdown at 16:50. The NPO lists the ceremony from 16:00 on 30 October at City Hall, Kabukicho 1-4-1. Walkerplus lists 16:30 and Dixieland Paradise. Last year’s NPO report had music at 16:00 and the switch-on at 16:30. Go at 16:00 if you want the speeches. The street is the point after that.
This is not Southern Terrace
Southern Terrace / Minami Lumi is the tourist walk off the New South exit. Last season was 12 November 2025 to 15 February 2026, usually to midnight. GO TOKYO closed that file in February. As of mid-October the 2026–27 dates are not on the organiser site. EnjoyTokyo’s Shinjuku illumination roundup still carries the 2025 copy. People who paste “mid-November” onto this winter are quoting last year.
Park Tower’s official event list, checked the same week, has a beer night and a piano concert. It does not yet list a 2026–27 fountain-square illumination. Jalan already printed 9 November to 14 February. Until the building posts it, that is an aggregator date.
Who this street is for after 22:00
Office drinkers use Kuyakusho-dori after 22:00 because it is the road they already walk, and because it is still on. Southern Terrace is dark by then in a normal year. TMG south deck is a free view until 22:00. It is not a light festival. Closures sit on the Finance Bureau page and on @tocho_tenbou. Happy New Year Tokyo at Citizens Plaza was last year’s draw. 2027 was not posted.
The 700 metres are a walk, not a plaza. You enter from Yasukuni-dori at the south end, or from Shokuan-dori near Seibu-Shinjuku at the north. Families who want a tree photo should go at 17:00, before the club doors open. After 22:00 the street is for people leaving work or going in. The 03:00 cutoff is for them, not for a stroller. Do not treat the wine glasses as a south-exit substitute. They sit on the east side of the station, in the ward.
If you can walk one dated street before December, walk this one. East exit or Seibu-Shinjuku. Do not drive it at night. Facts and the ceremony hour sit on the Kuyakusho-dori event page. Organiser: npo-3a.org.
