About This Event / イベントについて
The 38th Shinjuku Gyoen Orchid Exhibition is Tuesday 17 November to Monday 23 November 2026, a public holiday. The Ministry of the Environment posted the dates on 6 October. The show is inside the greenhouse, not in the Japanese garden beds used for chrysanthemums two weeks earlier.
Hours are 9:30 to 16:00. Last greenhouse entry is 15:30. On the 23rd the show stops at 15:30 and last entry is 15:00. The garden ticket is the only fee. Adults ¥500. Age 65 and high-school students ¥250. Junior high and younger free. A disability certificate plus one carer is free. There is no extra orchid ticket.
Amateur growers can enter up to 200 pots, first come, until 3 November. The Ministry also shows orchids the garden still raises. Last year the Association counted 136 amateur pots. Prize labels sit at the far end of the path. The 2025 Environment Minister prize was Cattleya maxima ‘Deep Kiss’.
Monday 16 November is a closed day between the two shows. Do not try to see chrysanthemums and orchids on the same ticket that week. Winter hours stay in force. The orchid week does not keep Mondays open the way the chrysanthemum fortnight does.
The unheated greenhouse started in 1875. A heated house followed in 1893, when the garden still grew orchids for imperial ceremonies. After the war the house opened to the public. The annual show began in 1983. Official pages: Ministry press release, Association notice, November calendar.

Last entry is earlier than the garden gate. Be at the greenhouse before 15:30.

Shinjuku-Gyoenmae is the Shinjuku Gate. No garden parking.
新宿門は新宿御苑前駅。園内駐車場なし。
Amateur entry closes 3 November if you grow your own.
