田島屋珈琲
思い出横丁にある1964年創業の老舗喫茶店。自家焙煎豆とネルドリップの深みのあるコーヒーを、大正レトロな空間で。
Tajimaya Coffee is a venerable kissaten, or traditional Japanese coffee house, situated in the heart of Omoide Yokocho near Shinjuku Station's west exit. Originally founded around the time of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the shop underwent renovations in 1987 and has continued to serve its deeply roasted, cloth-filtered coffee in a nostalgic setting that evokes the Taisho era of the early 20th century. The warm, retro interior with its dark wood panelling and vintage fittings offers a serene escape from the neon intensity of modern Shinjuku. The coffee is the star, with beans roasted in-house and brewed through a cloth filter using the traditional nel drip method, producing a rich, smooth cup with none of the bitterness that can accompany darker roasts. The slow, deliberate brewing process is part of the charm, and regulars come as much for the ritual as the result. Light food items and traditional kissaten fare such as toast sets and sandwiches complement the coffee menu. Opening hours are 10:00 am to 11:00 pm with last orders at 10:30 pm, and the shop closes only on New Year's Day. Its location three minutes from Shinjuku Station's west exit makes it a convenient resting point during a day of exploration, and the atmospheric Omoide Yokocho setting adds a layer of cultural immersion that few other coffee shops can match.
