炭火串焼 かっぺ亭
思い出横丁の炭火焼き鳥・串焼き店。戦後から鳥取県産の鶏を使い続けています。
Sumibi Kushi Yaki Kappe-tei is a beloved izakaya tucked within Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho, the narrow lane of tiny bars and eateries that dates back to the ruins of postwar Tokyo. The restaurant specialises in charcoal-grilled skewers, using Tottori prefecture jidori chicken cooked over binchotan white charcoal for a clean, aromatic finish. Its location in this nostalgically atmospheric alleyway places it just a two-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station's west exit. The menu centres on yakitori and motsuyaki grilled skewers alongside motsu-ni offal stew and soba or udon noodles, all offered at notably reasonable prices. A particular draw is the early-bird promotion where the first drink, typically a highball or sours, costs just 115 yen during the late afternoon. English menus are available, making it one of the more accessible spots in an area where language barriers can deter visitors. Kappe-tei opens from 16:00 on weekdays and from 12:00 on weekends and holidays, closing at 23:00. Given its popularity with both locals and tourists, arriving early in the evening is advisable to secure a seat at the small counter, as the venue does not accept reservations.
