One of the best meals and atmospheres I experienced in Tokyo!

Motsuyaki Ucchan is a lively grilled offal specialist in Shinjuku's famed Omoide Yokocho, serving fresh skewers and stew in an atmospheric alley setting. Nestled in one of Tokyo's most iconic yokocho (narrow alleyways), Ucchan embodies the spirit of old-school Shinjuku drinking culture, where strangers rub shoulders and the smoke from charcoal grills fills the air. The speciality is motsuyaki - skewers of fresh offal grilled over charcoal - with popular cuts including chire (spleen) and hatsu (heart). The motsunikomi, a rich offal stew, is another beloved dish that pairs perfectly with a cold beer or shochu. The menu extends well beyond skewers, offering a variety of small plates designed to complement drinks, and the casual pricing makes it easy to order generously. Ucchan opens at 16:00 and typically runs until around 22:00 with last orders, though items can sell out early on busy evenings, particularly on Sundays and at the end of long weekends. The shop is located in the Honami Building at 1-2-7 Nishi-Shinjuku, a short walk from Shinjuku Station's west exit, right in the heart of Omoide Yokocho.
