Henri Charpentier is a French-style confectionery brand founded in 1969 in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, named after the legendary chef credited with inventing crepe suzette. Its Tokyo presence includes counters at both Isetan Shinjuku and Shinjuku Takashimaya, making it a familiar name across the department stores of the Shinjuku area, where customers come for finely crafted sweets made with quality ingredients and time-honoured technique. The brand is best known for its crepe suzette and financiers, alongside a wide range of baked sweets, moist cakes and gift assortments prepared by trained pastry chefs. The Isetan Shinjuku counter offers the full baked-sweets and dessert range, whilst the Shinjuku Takashimaya branch focuses on baked confections ideal for gifting. Seasonal collections and limited-time assortments are released through the year, and the elegant packaging makes the sweets a popular choice for formal gifts and souvenirs. The Isetan Shinjuku counter sits at 3-14-1 Shinjuku, B1F of the Isetan Main Building, open 10:30 to 20:00, whilst the Takashimaya counter is at 5-24-2 Sendagaya, B1F of Shinjuku Takashimaya, open 10:00 to 19:30 and following the department store calendar. Both locations are within a short walk of JR Shinjuku and Shinjuku-Sanchome stations, and visiting in the morning offers the best selection before popular baked items sell out.
